For people who enjoy running, there’s nothing like lacing up the Nikes, heading out the door and hitting that stride. But every runner hits a wall at one point or another and day after day, run after run can soon become monotonous. Sometimes a little jolt to the routine is welcomed.
Whether you want to try out new routes, strive to be faster, have better endurance or even lose a little weight, runners (and want-to-be runners) can turn to the following phone apps for a little more variety in your training regimens:
This little app does it all! You can calculate distance, pace, and calories burned along with GPS route tracking. The app also tracks diet, weight and even allows you to compete on local courses. This app not only tracks your running, but over 600 other activities as well.
RunKeeper Pro is probably the most well-known of the running apps on this list. This is a feature-rich app that enables GPS tracking, distance, speed monitoring, caloric output and activity history for any number of activities you partake in including sports such as running, cycling, hiking, skiing and swimming. You can also sync all the data to RunKeeper’s website to monitor progress and share publicly. RunKeeper also offers a simplified version of the app for free.
Packed full of audio workouts (some even from Olympic athletes and coaches), you also get access to personalised regimes and real time verbal coaching. That’s basically someone shouting in your ear to pick up the pace. It’ll also track your steps, calories burned and tally up your workouts.
Runtastic focuses solely on runners and joggers, with excellent GPS route tracking and personal training features. There’s a voice coach – which gives you verbal gee ups, detailed maps so you don’t end up running in the middle of nowhere and everything can even automatically pause when you stop your exercise.
An integrated music player lets you boot up a ‘power song’ when you begin to lag – giving you that extra kick to get over the finish line.
Nike is one of the most recognizable fitness companies in the world, and they have created a running app! The app is perfect for tracking progress towards your goals, competing in challenges, and staying motivated.
Another sports brand, another app. This time it’s Adidas and MiCoach – its really strong range of fitness equipment. As with the others, it uses GPS and the accelerometer to track your movement, speed and range, while also giving you daily exercise plans.
7. BEATBURN TREADMILL/OUTDOOR TRAINER APPLE
Just love this app! Treadmill can be really fun:) But can alse be used outside.
This app is GREAT! If you struggle with your cardio workouts, this app allows me to explore different routines. The trainers are instructing you through the entire workout as if they were present. The workouts accommodate to all fitness levels and you won’t leave the gym disappointed.
When you are focused on your running it can be easy to forget that there’s more to this exercise than pounding the pavement; you need to stretch! This app walks you through stretches you need to be doing before and after your run so that your body is ready to run.
So now that you’re aware of all the new ways to make running more fun and efficient… what are you waiting for?
